Philips DS3020/05 Fidelio Portable Docking Speaker for iPod & iPhone - Full Review
Hi Guys and welcome to my video of the
Philips Fidelio DS3020/05 Ipod and iphone
portable docking speaker
The speaker comes with a
Power-pack which is 1.8 meters long
a usb cable for syncing with your computer
which is 1.1m long
and also a small white
3.5mm headphone jack cable
with male to male connectors
which is only half a meter long
for connecting to other devices
The speaker is prodominantly
white in color all the way around
with a grey mesh front
At the front is the volume control
with a plus and minus
a sprung loaded
attachment for your ipod or iphone
and you also get this rubber gromit
which your ipod sits against
on the top is the power button
and underneath
there is the 3.5mm headphone
jack, mini usb and power socket
a great feature of this speaker is that
underneath
you can install 4 AA batteries
so if you're on the move you don't need mains power
and that will give you 8 hours of playtime
this section at the bottom
has a strip of rubber
to stop that jumping around on a work
surface
so let's connect the ipod
okay the speaker is now connected to the
mains
and a orange light shows up in the volume control
funky!
place the ipod on the connector
you can control the volume with the device
or with the speaker, it's your call
The 10 watt output is unbelievable with this speaker
we've taken it on holiday many times
and the quality of sound easily fills a room
Controlling the volume with the device and the speaker
that volume went up about a quarter
maybe a third of the way up
and it's incredibly loud. Even on max there's no bass distortion
and the treble is crystal clear
it's absolutely bloody awesome!
Now phillips say
the curvature of this speaker
aids the acoustics of the device
and the whole in the middle
prevents any reverberations from left and right
channels
aesthetically pleasing with form and function as well
it's a little gem!
Now in terms of bad points it's really
hard to find fault with the speaker
it really is excellent, it ticks all the boxes
this white glossy shell however shows all your finger marks
which can look a little
nasty, but it's not that disastrous
Also if you have a case
for you ipod or iphone
if it's a flip one like mine it won't fit in
I know philips said you can
just not with a flip one like mine
If you have a slim wrap around case
it will fit in there
the real biggie is this ridiculously
small
3.5mm jack cable
it's absolutely tiny
you really have to have something close
it should be a lot longer
however, if that's the biggest gripe with this speaker, you not going to be disappointed.
So I hope you've enjoyed this video and it's been useful

Polk BOOM Swimmer: Best Wireless Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker; Unboxing, Shower Test and Review
I am unboxing and reviewing the
BOOM Swimmer Bluetooth Speaker:
it is very light,
has an impressive sound for its little size
and, YES, it is waterproof!
Lots of fun!
Coming up on âœYou Have An iPadâ.
This is the âœSwimmerâ from BOOM.
It is a portable, wireless speaker
you can easily connect to your iPhone,
iPad or basically any device that
supports bluetooth audio.
In the box you have:
the Swimmer speaker: already
mounted with its bendable tail,
a USB cable to charge the internal battery
a 3.5 mm auxiliary audio input cable
the manuals
and a Suction Cup Mount
The Swimmer is very small, very light
and it is has a rubber cover all around
with a nice, silky, soft touch.
It has this funny flexible tail
to hook the Swimmer to a lot of places,
or simply get creative.
Unscrewing the tail gives
access to the connections:
protected under a rubber cap
you lift with your nail.
We will get back to them in a moment,
but keep in mind that the speaker
is waterproof only with the tail.
It also has a rubber suction cup
to attach the speaker to
surfaces like plastic, glass, tiles or,
oh my! it is really powerful!
To release, pull the little tip on the side.
To turn-on the speaker,
hold the â˜power-buttonâ™ for two seconds.
You hear âœpower onâ.
To use the speaker wirelessly we
need to â˜pair itâ™ to a bluetooth device.
On the iPhone (or iPad) you open the
âœSettingsâ app, âœBluetoothâ,
and be sure bluetooth is â˜ONâ™.
On the speaker, hold the â˜bluetoothâ™ button
until you hear âœpairingâ.
Now the led keeps flashing in blue
and the âœBOOM Swimmerâ should appear
in the list of nearby devices.
Select it.
After it is âœpairedâ
we are ready to
rock.
You only need to pair it once,
unless you have multiple devices.
For maximum volume,
press the several times
until you hear a âœbeepâ.
On the iPhone, also put the
volume to the maximum.
For some weird reason they are separated.
Now you can put down the phone and
control everything from the speaker itself.
You can Pauseâ¦
Resumeâ¦
Lower the volumeâ¦
Increase the volume.
The ✠â and âœ-â buttons also control
the playback:
hold the ✠â for 3 seconds
to jump to the next songâ¦
hold the âœ-â for the previous song.
What you are listening was captured
by the terrible microphone of my Canon
and it is also affected by the speakers
you are using right nowâ¦
Anyway, you can compare the difference
when I switch back and forth
from the iPhone to the Swimmer.
On medium volume, the Swimmer has
16 hours of autonomy.
Playing at maximum volume,
it goes around 8 hours.
It is very clear when you need to recharge:
the speaker starts beeping - quite annoyinglyâ¦
When it is really low,
it shuts down by itself.
"Power off"
The Swimmer comes with a USB cable,
but it doesnâ™t bring an AC wall charger.
You must use a computerâ™s USB port
or any USB charger, like the iPhone ones.
The led gets red.
A complete charge takes about 2 hours,
and the red light simply turns off.
You can use the 3.5mm cable to plug old
non-wireless/non-bluetooth sound things,
like my iPod classic.
Another advantage of the cable is for games:
using the cable there is no delay at all,
instantaneous.
Using Bluetooth, there is a latency about
50ms...
...kind of bad for music games
and musical instrument apps.
For anything else,
the delay is barely noticeable.
It doesnâ™t have a microphone.
So you canâ™t use it as a handsfree
or conference speakerphone for calls.
It is for listening only.
But, hey, it is waterproof!
You can listen to music in your shower!
The iPhone is outside, safe and dry,
and yet you can choose your song.
The volume is more than enough
to set your mood and âœget inspiredâ!
Or, should I say, crazy?â¦
With the cup, you can notice some bass boost.
Once more: the cup attaches really strong!
But, you knowâ¦
I feel safer using the tail
to hook it over the door.
Anyway, to me this whole
shower experience was totally
awesome!!
Now for something outdoors:
On the bicycle I started just
hooking the tail openâ¦
but it is not enough and all the shaking
would end up dropping the speaker.
So, be sure to close the tail
so the speaker doesnâ™t fall off
when moving/shaking/doing radical stuff.
The volume is nice.
I didnâ™t even put the volume
to the maximum, it seemed it would
disturb people around me in the park.
Using the speaker on the Bicycle is a lot
of fun!
A true âœReady for Anythingâ (R4A) must
float.
Does it float?
Yes it does!
But as soon as the water gets in through
the grille, the sound gets very muffled.
Isnâ™t it funny how the water jumps?
Anyway, to enjoy good sound just, gently,
put the speaker to float upwards.
The Swimmer is IPX7 compliant.
It means it is built to remain
1 meter underwater, for 30 minutes,
with no problems.
To my disappointment, water totally
absorbs the Bluetooth microwave radio frequency
(By the way, thats how you heat your food).
Just a few inches in the water and
the signal is interruptedâ¦
But, just for fun, I placed
my iPhone very close, so to
keep the Swimmer playing underwater, yay!
Outside you can barely hear it.
I wonder ifâ¦
Yeah!
Ears in the water and
you hear it much better!
Actually, quite nice.
Water summary:
the Swimmer floats,
and it plays well in the surface.
The water protection is very effective:
IPX7 is more than enough for your shower
or swimming pool accidents.
But, Bluetooth communication
doesnâ™t work underwater.
So, if you want to listen to music
while you swim or dive, you need
to take an underwater player with you.
I bought the Boom Swimmer
as a gift to my wife.
I swear!
And she is enjoying it a lot!
She watches a lot of YouTube videos
on her iPhone while she cooks;
she listens to podcasts
and music in the shower.
It is far louder and better
than the iPhoneâ™s built in speaker.
Just to be clear:
this is not a sponsored video,
I bought it, liked it, and
did the review on my own.
I forgot to say it comes
in 5 colors, I guess.
And If you want to check it out
and buy it, Iâ™ll be glad if you
use my links in the description.
